need to know about "Frost protection"
Generally there are two types of antifreeze:
- silicate-containing antifreeze based on mono-ethylene glycol (MEG)
- silicate free (also known as OAT-based) anti-freeze based on organic acids
antifreeze should (no matter on what basis) generally not be used undiluted because glycol has a very poor cooling performance and pure only a frost resistance of max. -15 ° C offers!
Approximate course of the freezing curve (antifreeze / water mixture in%):
Expert Tip: Never mix silicate-containing antifreeze with silicate-free! (Eg VW G 11 + G12) because otherwise they can damage and seal the cooling system may be leaking!
